South Carolina now requires ’subversives’ to register
Here's a law that will encourage more civic participation, open debate, and protect us from subversives at the same time:
Terrorists who want to overthrow the United States government must now register with South Carolina's Secretary of State and declare their intentions -- or face a $25,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
The state's "Subversive Activities Registration Act," passed last year and now officially on the books, states that "every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States ... shall register with the Secretary of State."
There's even a $5 filing fee.
By "subversive organization," the law means "every corporation, society, association, camp, group, bund, political party, assembly, body or organization, composed of two or more persons, which directly or indirectly advocates, advises, teaches or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States [or] of this State."
We're reminded every 5 seconds that inclusion is a great virtue. And this law includes just about everyone and every group.

Free $5 idiot test. Anyone interested?
This has to be the dumbest piece of legislation of all time. Only the government could be so stupid.
I wonder how much this will impact the LoS's SC chapter? There's no way the government supremacists will let them slip by this.
Then again, once you pick off the genuine subversives (none of which will actually register), what you're left with are genuine, patriotic Americans. Kind of like the SPLC's HateWatch once you pick out tiny number of genuine skinheads they sweep up (probably by accident).
Of course, since this is a government program and not a quasi-private supplement program, it may be only a matter of time before the people on this list start disappearing from their homes in the dead of night, victims of the Thought Police.
Somewhat off topic, but did anybody on here catch Audi's Green Police commercial during the Super Bowl? It's truly frightening...
PalmettoPatriot,
Hello. My name is Bin Laden, and I'm here to legally register as a terrorist.
Garland,
Heck, this could be applied to the eeeevil Republicans who want to turn back the clock to the time before Obama stopped the rise of the oceans and reconciled the races.
Hell, I'm proud to be a subversive.
Where do I go to sign up?

Let's see...
"[Any organization]... which directly or indirectly advocates, advises, teaches or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States [or] of this State."
As goofy as this is, literally read it does NOT apply to the LoS because the League does not propose to do ANY of those things to the US government. We propose to leave. The Federals may do as they damn well please, just without us.
D.V. Arminius
Arminius, that is a very valid point, but when has the government read things literally? If the Constitution was read literally, the federal government would be a 1/100th of its current size.
Too many times have I argued with people who thought that the South was trying to overthrow the US government. There are countless times when I have advocated secession only to be yelled at for wanting to destroy America.
That little distinction in the text will be quickly overlooked or distorted, escpecially by organisations such as the SPLC or the NAACP.
Subversive are required to register; isn't this about the same level of logic and intelligence exercised by the Federal gub'ment when they require taxpayers to report illegal income?
Did not Lincoln say that the South was attempted to destroy the Union? The term 'civil war' means as much. Further all of our enemies say that secession is unlawful.
you know in ww2 the nazis used to have people sign up for"re-education"
then later on they would meet at a building and all be put to death.... just another form of control
