Trust DC to protect us?

Maureen Dowd asks a simple question:

If we can’t catch a Nigerian with a powerful explosive powder in his oddly feminine-looking underpants and a syringe full of acid, a man whose own father had alerted the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, a traveler whose ticket was paid for in cash and who didn’t check bags, whose visa renewal had been denied by the British, who had studied Arabic in Al Qaeda sanctuary Yemen, whose name was on a counterterrorism watch list, who can we catch?

DC does a great job of protecting us from grandmothers hiding weapons of mass destruction in their tennis shoes.

DC could do it, but they won't. Can not is different from will not. Since they will not, they are evil, not incompetent. Dowd wants us to ponder DC's incompetence, while I brood on DC's evil.

Forrest,

Yep -- that's the "grave threat" they can actually beat!

Axe Head,

True! There are many reasons to despise and reject the District of Corruption's hegemony. Yes, it's Mordor on the Potomac, but it's just as idiotic and hidebound as it is evil.
