What's sauce for the gay is sauce for the gecko

You'd think the official determination that Bill Sparkman's death was the result of suicide would behoove those who fanned the flames of anti-Southern and anti-conservative hysteria to apologize. But both Charles Johnson and Andrew Sullivan refuse to do so. Here's what Johnson said at the time when Sparkman's body was found:

There’s not enough information yet to say for sure what was behind this killing, so let’s not jump to conclusions. But the description of the circumstances and the timing (around the time of the Washington DC tea party) raises a strong suspicion that anti-government sentiment may have been the motivation.

And here's what Sullivan originally wrote:

It's possible, I suppose, that anger at the feds in general could make a drug dealer murder a census worker. But the most worrying possibility - that this is Southern populist terrorism, whipped up by the GOP and its Fox and talk radio cohorts - remains real. We'll see.

In defending his refusal to apologize, Sullivan wails that he never drew "firm conclusions" about what had happened; he only aired his "suspicions."

Fair enough. We can assume Johnson and Sullivan wouldn't mind a blog entry like this:

The gruesome discovery of the body of one of the Bay Area's leading activists against same-sex marriage was found today with a nearby note that read "Bigot." In view of the threats made against Christians and conservative activists who donated to the Proposition 8 campaign to define marriage as between a man and a woman, the possibility the murder was an act of homosexual terrorism is a strong possibility. However, the police have not completed their investigation.

Any objections? I can't think of any.
