US judge bans Christian car plate

A Federal judge has decided the South Carolina legislature cannot acknowledge the Christian faith on license tags:

A US judge has ordered South Carolina not to issue a vehicle number plate with a Christian image and slogan.

The state legislature had approved a licence plate with a cross in front of a stained glass window and the words "I Believe" written along the top.

District Judge Cameron Currie said that the plate violated the First Amendment, which enshrines the separation of church and state.

A similar bid by a group in Florida last year did not pass state lawmakers.

The case was brought by Americans United, which backs the separation of church and state, on behalf of several individuals and Hindu and American-Arab groups.

Did you catch that last sentence? This story says just as much about DC's growing arrogance as it does about demographic and cultural reconstruction.

Hey, South Carolina, have you had enough? Then click here.

What's interesting is that there is no seperation of church and state in the Constitution. The First Amendment was meant to prevent the federal government from establishing a national religion.

Seperation of church and state was mentioned in a letter (by Thomas Jefferson, I believe) and was then used by a Supreme Court justice in order to disadvantage private Catholic schools in the North somewhere.

(I read this a while ago in the Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution.)

The fact that the Arab American organizations joined in is confusing. While most Arabs in general are Muslim, Arab Americans are overwhelmingly Christian. I think "American-Arab groups" is PC-speak for "Muslim groups."
