Stuck in the Middle of the Political Goo

Poor Charles Johnson is vexed, miffed, yet also amused that the lefty site Think Progress still lumps him in with conservatives.

Gee, you support one fake conservative president, and you get fake conservative gum stuck on your shoe -- forever!

But that's the risk of working as a double agent. The rewards? Getting the other side to support your ultimate goals -- and Johnson won, big time.

Johnson's Little Green Footballs site has always cheered on big government as the best means to uproot traditional society and replace it with Johnson's own version of utopia, something we reported on back in May, before the nasty split among online supporters of the Neocon Wars. As I noted over a year ago, grassroot conservative's support for DC's wars can only lead to increasing government's control over us:

That’s why today’s Neocons have more in common with leftists than the conservatives whose identities they’ve stolen — both Neocons and leftists condemn “racism,” which they always scream whenever they’re blocked by the desire to preserve a traditional way of life. Both groups of ideologues want nothing more than to destroy tradition and replace it with their own values and blueprints. Leftists call it “revolution,” Neocons call it “creative destruction.” The goal of each is the same. Both want to reconstruct society according to abstract, universal principles of their own making. Both want their subjects to surrender loyalty to their culture and make the ruling institutions the object of veneration.

Lesson learned: Anyone who invokes the language of conservatism to justify an increase in government power is out to fool you.

But wait, there's more to be learned from this: Traditional society possesses the integrity and vitality of a long history of survival and sense of identity. Its strength and endurance arise from its organic nature. Tyranny, however, is a parasite that can only hold on by fooling its host. So, yes, the forces of unnatural, over-sized government appear strong, and wield great power over us, but only by our consent.

Repeat: Only by our consent. And you know what the law says about consent obtained by fraud.
