The SPLC was right about domestic terrorists!

Heidi Beirich, SPLC Femme Fatale

Last February, the Missouri Information Analysis Center on "right-wing extremism" used the Southern Poverty Law Center as a source to alert law enforcement personnel to the domestic terror threat posed by gun owners, conservatives, and anyone who utters "anti-government rhetoric." Two months later, the Department of Homeland Security rehashed much of the SPLC's speculations, and added that "patriot groups" as well as current and past "members of the military" were also suspect.

Looks like the SPLC was right. Nidal Malik Hasan, who killed 14 soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, perfectly fits the SPLC's depiction of a domestic terrorist.

He was born in Virginia, where the capital of the Confederacy was located. He's in the military. He owns a gun. Before his mass-murder spree, he often badgered associates with "anti-government rhetoric" about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which he bitterly opposed. And CNN now reports that two imams it interviewed recall that Hasan was noted for his "conservatism." Even more damning, Hasan had sought "a wife who would stand by him, is [a] loyal American, who will help him do his work and his service for the U.S. military." That means Hasan not only saw himself as a patriot, but -- sad to say -- was a heterosexual.

Yep -- just the kind of character the SPLC has tried to warn us about.

rex osborne,

I always recommend at least a half a pot of Luzianne to prepare you for Rebellion in the morning.

Maybe I should put "Graphic content!" warning labels on posts.

Yes, you should put up at least a 3 day warning before you post pics like that. I almost lost my breakfast.

Jamie S,

Gee, it's hard to think that far ahead. Rebellion is all about blogging without a safety net, folks, and readers' assumption of risk is part of the fun.
