The Little Green Meltdown
If you haven't kept up with the meltdown of the pro-war, any-war crowd, you've been missing some of the grandest entertainment on the 'net (see here, here, and here, for example).
Seems Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, though he was all for the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, can no longer tolerate his conservative allies who also want to halt Third-World immigration in order to preserve Western, Christian culture. Johnson, of course, is the more logically consistent here -- Bush & Co. always justified their wars as egalitarian, globalist crusades aimed at crushing backward (traditional) cultures, with just enough fabrications about protecting Americans from attack to justify a pre-emptive war. Patriotic conservatives who blindly followed the president and supported his aggressive wars have recoiled from Johnson's accusations that they're "racist" and "white supremacist." They counter by accusing him of betraying conservatism and having mutated into a leftist.
The conservative bloggers are wrong -- again. Charles Johnson hasn't changed. What's happened is that they were fooled. In fact, now that DC's splendid little wars aren't fun anymore, the unnatural coalition that backed them is falling apart. What else but a nation-building crusade wrapped up in patriotic language could induce well-meaning, patriotic Americans to do the bidding of lefties such as Christopher Hitchens, Charles Johnson, Hillary Clinton, and Irv Kristol?
The Iraq and Afghan adventures were conceived as classic leftist projects to destroy traditional societies and reconstruct them into models of egalitarianism. The Neocons, who're nothing but body-snatching leftists, were going to accomplish what LBJ failed to do with his Great Society/Vietnam campaigns. The Neocons intended to impose their world democratic revolution at home and abroad -- that's why they supported amnesty for illegal aliens at home while American soldiers died trying to remake the Middle East. Those wars took more resources away from Americans and placed them in the hands of the central government, as all wars do. The additional powers our handlers in DC have appropriated, including domestic spying and "preventive detention" for enemies of the government, are now in the hands of Obama and his cronies.
The party's over, the bill has tripled the deficit, and folks like Charles Johnson have woken up with what they consider coyote-ugly bedmates. No wonder he's chewing his arm off.

It's easy to say now that the Iraq War was going to be difficult. We still don't know how things are going to pan out there.
Please answer this: why do you think we shouldn't have believed the president when he said he wanted to invade because of Saddam's WMD?
Old Reb:
In what I'm about to write, I believe that most, if not all (except perhaps for you, O.R.), who read it through, will perhaps snickeringly reject it - as hopelessly "Mediaevel," "backward," etc. But here goes.
The situaltion today is exactly as the revered Apostle Paul wrote in the book to the Ephesians, 6:12:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the high places."
Please Realize: "spiritul forces" includes one's thoughts, ideas and esp. beliefs. From WHERE do YOU get yours? Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ answered that PLAINLY:
"He that is not with me is against Me; and he that gathereth not with Me scattereth abroad."
-- Matthew 12:30
Here's where The Apostle's words come in: EVERYBODY, Left AND Right, knows fully well "the world" IS A MESS. But how to "fix it"?
Here' where Our Lord's words come in: The Left HATES God, and laughs at you if you even suggest to "look to Him." I can literally "hear the laughter now," b/c I have literally heard it MANY TIMES in my own life (I was born and raised in New York, and spent 8 long years in Ma-a-a-ssachusetts).
Johnson is apparently a Neocon - and the reason for his hatred of people like us, "Paleo-Cons," is that he is a Trotskyist - one who believes the World must be transformed, NOT IN & WITH THE LOVE OF GOD, BUT WITH AND BY VIOLENCE if necessary, and/or at least by a totalitarian Central "government" with forcibly coercive "laws" that are DOMINANTLY BINDING ON ALL, e.g. "Civil Rights," "Fair Housing" laws (legalizing, literally, what until very recently was castigated as 'shacking up'), "environmental" laws, etc, etc.
As Rodney King, a literally dangerous CAREER CRIMINAL as his 'record' literally proves, bleeted out so disarmingly: "Can't ... can't we all just get along?"
The dangerously IRRATIONAL EMOTIVISM that lies behind and in support of that INSANE "HOPE" is quite literally what is THE VERY BASIS of the Left: If we just 'DEMOLISH' "the barriers" between and amongst us, "everything will be fine!" "Everybody's really Equal, just give'em a chance!" And ONE of the "barriers" is also one of the "chances": OPEN BORDERS.
And what makes it truly virulent and dangerous is that Corporate Capitalists FULLY EMBRACE IT - euphemistically to avoid the Leftist charge of "RACISM!," but in Reality to HIRE CHEAP LABOR FOR MAXIMUM PROFIT. It is literally that ugly.
So there we are: this is why we are in such a literally life-threatening mess. The Insane Left AND the 'wonderful' Conservative Capitalist 'Right' are united in their pursuit of "Open Borders." And that also explains why, for at least the last 20 YEARS or more, nothing politically has changed vis-a-vis 'immigration' EVEN THOUGH 2/3 TO 3/4 OF THE ENTIRE POPULATION FAVORS IT: IT TAKES MONEY - LOTS OF MONEY - EVEN TO GET ELECTED TO VERY LOCAL (read "small") OFFICE. And, WHO HAS THE MONEY??
As long as The System of Corporate Capitalism continues, Americans and traditional culture literally DON'T HAVE A CHANCE. I hope someone will listen: Christian Distributivism IS THE ANSWER.

It's a natural bias all Southerners are born with, articulated this way by a famous Southerner:
Oh, I'm a good old rebel
Now thats just what I am
And for this yankee nation
I do no give a damn.
I hates the Yankee nation
And eveything they do
So, everything DC does should be disbelieved until proven. Everything. And if what DC wants means more power and treasure for our handlers, suspect it even more.
Nick,
Well said! Greed is indeed an enslaving force, and Christian distributism is a good antidote.
Anon: Please answer this: why do you think we shouldn't have believed the president when he said he wanted to invade because of Saddam's WMD?"
Because his lips moved when he said it. We should always assume the gubment is lying, until proven otherwise.
Nick,
Christian distributism is Socialism in Christian drag. It's a lie---and always has been. In order to have a large middle class that can support their families, you have to have the protection of property rights. That means, letting the working man keep the fruits of his labors. Until society recognizes that taxation is theft, and that it is wrong to vote yourself largesse at your neighbors expense, we will not likely see a large middle class restoration.
Instead of "Distributivism" I think a better word would be "Charity".
I, like many of you I'm sure, donate to local charity organizations (note that I said "local"). If I didn't have so much of my hard-earned income stolen via taxes I would probably donate much more to local charities. IMO this is the answer to a forced welfare system. Historically it is a proven fact that, when not oppressed to the point that they can only be concerned with self-preservation, people do help each other. Volunteer, local charities have an incentive to help people in a way that gets them off the charity. A tax-funded, welfare system has an incentive to perpetuate itself - and keep people on the welfare.
To my understanding, the best model of government is detailed in the Bible. The Bible teaches universal, fundamental principles - many of which were well known long before the books of the Bible were written. The greatest fundamental principle is... Love. I'm not talking about mortal sensualism - I'm talking about what John had in his thought when he said, "God is Love"; I'm talking about what Jesus had in his thought when he said, "God is Spirit". When people rely on and embrace divine Principle they appear to others as if they are self-governed, independent, trust-worthy, self-reliant, individually responsible, etc.
People such as these thrive where there is absolute minimum secular government. People such as these strike the ultimate fear into the hearts of collectivists. There is no way the collectivists can convince these people that they "need" the collectivists' systems. This is why Love as Principle is not taught in "public" schools, because it would undermine the collectivists' control.
Thus, the best government is when an individual is governed by God - infinite Life, Truth and Love. The best type of secular government is the one that most promotes this type of individual growth (evolution). We construct this ideal, secular government according to the design revealed on the mount - as opposed to humanism. IMO the US Constitution (and even more-so, the Constitution of the Confederacy) is human-kind's best attempt at this ideal, secular government... I assure you it will not be the last.
Having apparently demonized collectivists, I feel I need to clarify my thought on this topic in order to reveal our common adversary, and I think this is coordinate with Nick's post. Let me clearly state my position: there is no such thing as an evil person. Evil is a human paradigm - that is, evil is a way of thinking. You can not love your "neighbor" if you believe them to be evil. We fight not against people, but against thought. I challenge you to think about this.
Great post, Nick.
