War on 'hate' groups in military
The more you read about this, the more you realize how ambitiously totalitarian DC has become:
Alcee Hastings, impeached federal judge now congressman from Florida, has introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 2647, link) (h/t 24 ahead.com) that will keep "hate groups" and the like out of the U.S. military (PDF here). The title of the amendment is "Prohibition on recruitment, enlistment, or retention of persons associated with hate-related violent against groups or persons or the United States government" ...
"Hate groups" are defined by, among several other things, those that "espouse or engage in acts of violence against other groups or minorities based on ideals of hate, ethnic supremacies, white supremacies, racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, or other bigotry ideologies." And, similar to Hasting's HR645, there's a catch-all definition:
Other groups or organizations that are determined by the Attorney General to be of a violent, extremist nature.
Here is how Mr. Hastings would like to see Mr. Holder identify those who are members of "hate groups":
(B) Individuals known to have attended meetings, rallies, conferences, or other activities sponsored by a hate group.
(C) Individuals known to be involved in online activities with a hate group, including being engaged in online discussion groups or blog or other postings that support, encourage, or affirm the group's extremist or violent views and goals.
So it's not just violence that disqualifies a person from joining or even REMAINING in the military; any speech deemed "extremist" will get you booted. What's "extremist" in a country with a leftist administration? Are you for Open Borders? No? Then you're xenophobic. Do you support "gay marriage"? If not, you're homophobic. Attended any Tea Parties lately?
Gotcha!

Forty-four years too late to help me, dadburnit!
If these proposed "rules" had existed back in '65 it would have been so EASY to be disqualified from the honor being legally kidnapped and inducted into the Glorious Imperial Legions of Holy Yankee Hegemony.
Yeah, but I'm afraid this is just the beginning of the disenfranchisement of conservative America. Ed Sebesta once proposed screening out SCV and UDC members from serving on juries or as judges:

But then you know to have a truly inclusive military (or whatever) certain people must be excluded. Doublethink rules the day in Amerika.
If they kick all the Southerners out of the military, who'll do their fighting for them? Certainly not the "best and brightest" from the Ivy League.
Today the military. Tomorrow Social Security.
'Course we've known about the latter possibility for sometime.
HaroldC,
Yeah, Orwell certainly predicted our modern mindset. Or unmindset. "Inclusion" means kicking out non-conformists, and "diversity" means discriminating against whites.
Big Chief,
They probably plan on replacing Southerners with uprooted Iraqis, who will be granted citizenship for joining the military.
Pawmetto,
Oh, yeah -- this is just the beginning. All part of the government plan to elect a new people.
If Washington establishes the precedent of screening out of the
military those who are politically unreliable, it will have created a powerful tool for repression and tyranny. Not only will the troops
be less likely to oppose the government, but those who are excluded will not be given military training which makes our
veterans a shield against government over-reaching today.

Steve K,
Excellent point. And a scary one, as well.
If you are dumb enough to sell your soul to the Yankee military, you are dumb enough to get everything the military is involved right now.
Thats tough thing for me to say because my younger brother is going to be an officer in the GA National Guard. Wish I could have talked him out of it.
The Yankee military is stealing the best and brightest of the Southern Men and always have. But it would not be bad the Yankees kept Libertarian young men out of military. We need those men at home to raise families and preserve the idea of liberty.
But the temptation of free college has swayed many. It almost did me in but I resisted because I love my hair.
And who says vanity is bad?
Steve K has it right, but didn't extend the logic far enough. I assure you, Gov has extended the logic. If you can get all the "unreliable" people out of the military, and get all those irritating soldiers who believe in the Constitution out of the military, and then get your soldiers from "reliable" sources and from immigrants wanting a quick pass to citizenship without the generational ties to citizenship.....you have an Army at the beck and call of Gov that will be MORE than willing to fire upon it's own citizens. Get it?
Creating a compliant military is the entire point, and the force behind the militarization of the police and their "re-education."
The probability of significant military-police defection is being minimized prior to the actions that are anticipated.
