Attendance up at SC Confederate, military museum

The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is enjoying new-found popularity -- and that's a good thing:

Museum officials say attendance from July 2008 to last June was 22,000 people - more than double what the attraction was pulling in before moving into its new building near downtown Columbia five years ago.

Why are Southerners showing renewed interest in their first War for Southern Independence? To make sure we get it right this time.

I have gone recently and enjoyed their exhibits. The military museum has some WWI stuff that is good, too.

However our real challenge here in SC is that the Sesquicentennial of the WTBS is nearly upon us. Our pin headed State Archives and History director wants to make it a slavery apology theme. He refuses to acknowledge the correct name insisting it will always be called Civil War as far as he is concerned. He has also made UDC and SCV folks mad with his "inclusiveness"(HINT Diversity)theme on what events will be about.

We're working hard to discredit him, maybe even have him removed if possible. It is important our struggle is correctly celebrated, here in Dixie especially.

Pawmetto,

If there's anything we can help to expose this quack, just let us know.

We Southern Nationalists need to respect our history simply because it is our history. Embrace it because it will never change.

However, if the goal is a New Southern Nation, we need to hammer in the idea of a NEW SOUTHERN NATION. We cannot give the impression that we love slavery and are celebrating the idea of slavery. That will not bring about any kind of New Southern Nation.

Just saying. Apologizing for slavery is stupid because it is a waste of time and means absolutely nothing. But if they do apologize for it, we shouldn't care...just like everyone else.

Ah, the old discredit someone ploy...that should go over well. And what happens if you are discredited instead of the person your after.

Maybe, just maybe, he is the head of this museum because he has the background and knowledge of the period to present a balanced understanding of the south and the confederacy. And I hate to tell you but to understand the reason the confederacy went to war you have to include slavery...truth hurts...but sooner or later you will need to get over that fact. I am sure the history of the conflict...er...Rebellion will be better once you do get over that fact.

Since the North seems to like Blacks and hate slavery so, let us encourage the blacks to migrate to the gracious Northern states. Finally we'd have a true blood nation again, just as envisioned by Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. I hope the South does get it right this time, I'd put my life on the line for it.
