Actually, grammatical limitations with the general public limit commentary on secession more often than not to the verb "succeed" as opposed to "secede." That's a good sign, I suppose. A new dynamic creeps into the general vocabulary.
Just don't tell anyone about the power of the subliminal nor about Freudian slips. =:-D
