Kill Bill!

The Texas Sovereignty Bill, that is. And we've identified the perp:

The much bally-hooed resolution to Congress was designed to serve notice on the federal government to "cease and desist certain mandates" and sought to repeal or prohibit certain federal legislation.

Just as Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, was introducing the House resolution when Rep. Senfronia Thompson, D-Houston, raised the procedural point that shot it down.
She said that "states rights" was used as a banner for segregation and Jim Crow laws, but that was not her immediate concern.

Of course not. So why raise those red herrings, Senronia?
Thompson said she opposed the resolution because it, and others like it, are feeding movements that challenge federal authorities to regulate guns, taxes or fund needed state programs such as children's health and unemployment insurance.

"I don't want to see that used as a mechanism to block that assistance," Thompson said.

Yeah, let's not do anything to stop our magic money machine in DC. Who cares about the constitutionality of those give-aways?

I'm sure Rep. Thompson swore an oath to defend the Texas and US Constitutions. Does she not know the 10th Amendment is part of the US Constitution? How, then, can you not vote to reaffirm a section of the Constitution you're sworn to uphold?

Oh, that's right -- it's so we can keep getting all those free goodies our handlers in DC want to give us as long as we do what they say. I forgot.

I am not surprised. These "living breathing document" people have no idea what they are talking about with the constitution. They can simply twist the words to mean anything that they want them to mean including bringing up things that are non-issues like Jim Crow and segregation. I am sick of the contant complaining about everything and everyone being racist from the media to standardised tests.

LostinUtah,

Yeah, always crying "Racism!" seems silly, and is usually inappropriate, but it's always worked.

Up to now ...
