States Rebel Against Washington
"Revolution is on the horizon," says Rep. Michael Pitts. And he's right -- if DC continues to spiral out of control, the people will be forced to restore sanity, and the only way to do that is by reasserting local control. The constant stream of other-worldly dictates from DC are eating us alive. No wonder we're seeing more news reports like this from the Christian Science Monitor:
There's an old joke in South Carolina: Confederate President Jefferson Davis may have surrendered at the Burt-Stark mansion in Abbeville, S.C., in 1865, but the people of state Rep. Michael Pitts's district never did.
With revolutionary die-hards behind him, Mr. Pitts has fired a warning shot across the bow of the Washington establishment. As the writer of one of 28 state "sovereignty bills" – one even calls for outright dissolution of the Union if Washington doesn't rein itself in – Pitts is at the forefront of a states' rights revival, reasserting their say on everything from stem cell research to the Second Amendment.
"Washington can be a bully, but there's evidence right now that there are people willing to resist our bully," said Pitts, by phone from the state capitol of Columbia.
For the past few years, I've often wondered out loud what it would take for people to finally stiffen up and resist an increasingly authoritative, uncaring central government. Looks like we're there.

I reckon it's time to place an ad. Here goes...
Family willing to relocate to a State where common sense prevails. State of new residence must be a God-fearing, homeschool-friendly, pro-gun, pro-life, pro-family environment. Upon relocation, family plans to take an active role in the life of the local community. Family is self-sufficient, including hunting, fishing, and farming. Family has a proven track record of high yield gardening and a high volume wildlife harvest. Family is fiercely independent, with the Bible as its guide, the "Battle Flag" as its banner, and the faith, firepower, and marksmanship skills to keep it that way. Family believes in the Bill of Rights and lives by the Ten Commandments. Family is a testimony to the mercy and grace of God.
Any prospective neighbors out there?
I can't see any states out there for you, but I highly recommend that you consider moving to Iran, Saudi Arabia, or, if you prefer things a tad more liberal than those two theocracies, one of the Gulf States.
Freebird,
You are far from being alone
on this. If you care to set
up a way to contact you for
your ideas on where to settle
you might be surprised at the
response. God bless.

Gaus,
Sounds interesting. Tell me more.
Freebird,
I'd like to see a blog for folks who
take these values seriously and are
intent on living them out. Topics
could include where to settle, and maybe a co-op for Southern made goods. Possibly even a Southern credit union (keep our money at home). Plus all of the other issues involved in living out our values on a daily basis.
To clarify, this is Michael Tuggle's blog and he does a great job of keeping us aware of threats to our liberty. Given the time
it takes to research and post the
items he is interested in, he might
welcome a blog that deals with the
mechanics of the Southern cultural
independence that needs to thrive if a Southern nation is ever to exist. It seems to me that the concerns and values you identify are basic to Southern cultural independence.
The blog could be restricted by
password to those who are serious about living these values. I would
personally be willing to pay a reasonable monthly fee to support the site.
What do you think so far?
(Note to Michael Tuggle: when you
review this for suitability, please include your comments, and thanks for hosting this exchange.)
Gaus
Gaus,
Sounds good. I just wish I had time to develop my own blog. Oh, well...
