Sean Penn Calls for ‘Harvey Milk Day’

That's a good start. But why stop there? I think we need an Al Sharpton Day.

Let's see. We should also consider having days for the following persons:

David Duke
David Vitter
Jim Bunning
Guy Hunt
William Jefferson
Jeb Bush
George W. Bush

And why not these too:

Elliot Spitzer
Randy "Duke" Cunningham
Rod Blagojevich
Bernie Madoff
Marion Barry
Larry Craig
Ted Stevens

Quite simply, a**holes come from the North, South, East and West. They are white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Indian and so forth. They are men and women, gay and straight, old and young, and so forth.

While Al Sharpton definitely belongs in the above category, as he has repeatedly made a buffoon of himself--Harvey Milk does not. Feel free to villify someone because of their views, actions, writings, politics and so forth. But to attack someone simply because they happen to be gay is just wrong.

Harvey Milk-Toast (as I saw it written once). . . how amusing. Sounds like Californication has its priorities any way but straight (pun intended).

Oliver Klozoff,

Hmm -- didn't that name come from one of Bart Simpson's prank phone calls?

Anyway, my original point was to emphasize the inanity of celebrating every "hero" of the Civil Rights Revolution. Not exactly an attack on Harvey Milk.

But since you bring up the subject, let's get one thing straight (sorry!) -- the promiscuity unleashed by Milk and others like him in the "Gay Rights" movement turned San Francisco into a petri dish for AIDS. So he's directly responsible for the suffering and death caused by that horrible disease.

Hero? Not in my book.

What, Mike!? Milk not a hero in your book!? Why, he has been iconized!

Snaggle-Tooth Jones,

Wow. Just when I think I can't be shocked anymore...

You got me, I did not know you were a Simpsons fan I'm actually Moe the Bartender.

On to the issue of the day--I never said Harvey Milk was a hero. I never even saw the movie, for tht matter, nor do I intend to (unless I happen to be sick and there is nothing better on TV). Milk was a character, I'll give you that. But to lump someone with a known buffoon just because you don't agree with him is wrong.

Jacques Strap,

Well, you do have a point. Other than orchestrating mass perversity and helping birth a new, devastating disease, Milk was a heckuva guy.
