Hate Group Numbers Rise Again
Here's a surprising bit of news: In its latest Intelligence Report, the Southern Poverty Law Center sadly admits the number of "hate groups" in America has increased, despite the organization's best efforts to "Stop the Hate"! Even more alarming is the SPLC's warning that some "hate groups" even disguise themselves as respectable academics!
Aren't we fortunate to have a selfless, totally objective organization like the SPLC to sound the alarm and protect us?
In a completely unrelated story, Agence France-Presse reports that witches are appearing in record numbers in Nigeria, and even taking the form of children to fool their victims. Fortunately, this is a menace "self-proclaimed pastors" are uniquely equipped to deal with:
As in many other parts of Africa, the belief in witchcraft is not new in Nigeria, but never have children been targets of witch-hunt. ...
Locals say the main factor is greed on the part of the self-proclaimed pastors who have proliferated in the area in recent years.
"You have to be seen as spiritually powerful to draw the crowds and in the process collect lots of money in offerings," said Ikpe-Utauma.
The phony pastors who claim to exorcise the children also get paid in cash or kind for deliverance and counselling sessions.
Well, they deserve the money they earn. Fighting witches is scary business!

It blows my mind how the press is supposed to check out conflict of interest, and question sources, but the SPLC always gets a free ride. What's the deal here?

Why did the corporate press give the Bush regime a free ride in the build-up to the invasion of Iraq? Even the "liberal" New York Times echoed the lies about WMD.
The answer is that they serve the ruling elite. Both the corporate press and the SPLC spread imperial propaganda.

Actually, it amazes me to no end that morons like Dees, Beirich, Potok and Sebesta (*especially* Sebesta) are taken seriously by anybody other than their fellow vaporbrains on the radical left. Their writing is terrible (*especially* Sebesta's), their "scholarship" is absolutely shoddy, and their moonbattery is evident. Thankfully, none of this this has escaped the notice of many "mainstream" analysts, but the fact that these moonbats are actually able to make a living at this is just mystifying to me. Proof again, I guess, that Barnum was right.

Well, these folks have gotten pretty fat and lazy over the years. They don't have to really work for a living, and have never, ever had to handle a real challenge, so of course their writing and thinking is flabby.
