The real Bush legacy

"We do not torture." George W. Bush, 7 November, 2005

Yes, we do:

A Bush administration official responsible for reviewing practices at Guantanamo Bay says the U.S. military tortured a Saudi national who allegedly planned to participate in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the Washington Post reported.

"We tortured [Mohammed al-]Qahtani," Susan J. Crawford told the Post. "His treatment met the legal definition of torture. And that's why I did not refer the case" for prosecution.

Welcome to the United Stasi of America.

Jeff Va. Rebel,

We'd ALL better start looking over our shoulders -- and start organizing to downsize an out-of-control central government.

Because, yes, Americans can be imprisoned and tortured, according to the Neocons and their leftist allies.

I have no problem with the torture of raghead terrorists, or killing the sonsabitches outright after getting the information.

But Hell, that's just me.....and a few million others.

These bastards are not Americans or soliders and should be treated like the murdering scum they are.

Pat Houseworth,

Yeah. And these sweeping new powers DC claims will NEVER be used against Americans to stifle dissent.

Never.

What evidence do you have to condemn these "terrorist".
Believe me, I'm with the eye for an eye crowd. But, to round up dissidents in far away countries and hold them without trial, is tyranny!
And for the federal government to place these prisoners in Southern States, puts innocent civilians in harms way.
If the government wishes to proceed with their folly. They should open up Camp Douglas or any other torture camps in the northern territory.
We should not be so quick to accuse one of terrorism. The Home Grown Terrorist Act makes each one of us suspect. DeoVindice

MarkSC--you may know from my previous posts that I disagree, albeit respectfully, about many positions taken on this blog. Not as to your last post, however. Your setence about tyranny hits the nail on the head with a ten ton hammer.

Those guilty of terrorism, and not the George W. Bush/Dick Cheney version, should be punished appropriately and severely AFTER being found guilty at a fair trial. Even the most heinous criminal is entitled to a fair trial. Otherwise, we risk becoming no better than the terrorists whom we seek to defeat.
