Obama Vows No Torture in War Against Terrorism

President-elect Barack Obama said Friday his administration would not "compromise its ideals" to fight terrorism.

Make a note of that.

This is the candidate who promises to expand the war in Afghanistan, even though it's totally unwinnable. What kind of ideal is that?

The Great O is now channelling that great terrorist hunter Elmer Fudd: "I'm sowwy, Mr. Afghan. I hope I didn't hurt you too much when I killed you."

Pat Houseworth,

Reality is different from the way Fox News and Fox Entertainment presents it. Torture might work just fine for Jack Bauer, but here in the real world, it's counter-effective.

Forget the immorality of it. It just doesn't work. People will admit to anything under torture. There was a line in the movie Stalin with Robert Duvall in the title role that sums it up perfectly. Stalin ordered Beria to make a political enemy confess to something that could get him kicked out of the Party. The slimy Beria promised, "I'll make him confess to being the King of England."

Some role model.

And let's not forget that DC now considers the entire globe to be the theater of its "global war on terror," and yes, America is on that globe. We know torture was used on one American citizen. Do we really want the central government to have the power to punish people BEFORE they've been convicted of anything?
