If we only had a fence ...
I suppose these folks' intentions are good, but the simple truth is that a fence on the US-Mexican border is not going to stop the flow of illegals into this country. The financial incentives on both sides are just too attractive. And these days, money is all that matters, even if it's illusory and short term.
The dynamics of this invasion are no different from any other. Whatever its outcome depends on many factors, both economic and emotional. The one vital factor that can change everything is the morale of the defender, something every commander and political leader trying to hold back a determined invader knows his people must have. An army or a people facing long odds and backed by scant resources can, if united by a strong sense of identity and purpose, achieve miracles. And the reverse is true -- good odds and good supply lines mean nothing if there is no strong sense of purpose in the ranks.

What are we defending? Which way of life deserves to predominate? Is ours a heritage of proud accomplishment or is it only a code word for irrational hate? Until we re-learn pride in who we are, nothing can save us from being overwhelmed by a teeming Third World. Nothing.

And we are only a few years distant from entering the horrific downward slope of a Post-Peak Oil world. The planet's systemic carrying capacity will, in all likelihood, correct itself to the tune of minus 3-5 billion over the course of the century. It will not be pleasant nor a comfortable, liberal prance.
I am amazed at how many secessionist groups/organizations seem to have a blind spot on this, to be diplomatic. Or, to be more to the point, have their heads stuck up a certain part of their anatomies, to be not so diplomatic.
Furthermore, re Post-Peak Oil it would seem to me that most secessionist groups have not yet embraced philosophically nor politically the terrible incentive to see clearly...and own accordingly the requisite courage that will be called for.
sebastian ronin,
I'd say it's the "bigger is better" crowd that's blind to the limits of consumption and population growth. Their response to every issue is, "C'mon in! Have another!"
Charlene Spretnak wrote a great book a few years back titled, "The Resurgence of the Real," in which she presented the environmentalist case for smaller nations.
I refer to it often.
I'd rather try the fence instead of doing nothing at all!!!

Doesn't this anger you?

The government can't just get away with not building the fence they promised.
Old Rebel
Mark Robertson, Old Rebel,
Yes, the Federal government's lies and direct support for Open Borders is outrageous. But the wall with Mexico is just part of the PR scam they're pulling on us, just like the highly-publicized ICE raids -- they're calculated to save McCain on the immigration issue.
Watch what happens once the election's over.
Hey..
I'll make it a baker's dozen here with this post. The open borders dilemna has become a catalyst for boldness by the invaders and the welcome all crowd.
The North American Prosperity crowd will be the trifecta that will be the beginning of the end. THE SUPER CORRIDOR. The 6 lane highway and rail and ports in western Mexico will feed it all with FOREIGN investment. They will dare anyone to stop them as ECONOMICALLY they will close all eastern and far western US ports from Chinese trade. Lower wage port workers in Mexico will increase further profits along with thir truckers and CHEAP Mexican/Venezuelan oil!
Than again this may help secession on as we will have secure borders and a trade polcy to LEVEL the playing field, keeping our Southern ports as well as the Panama canal open for trade from the Orient.
I just printed off one of Dixie's, Robinson Homeschool Curiculum books for this year, and it is David Crockett, Scout. The book ends with
"THERMOPYLAE HAD ITS MESSENGER OF DEFEAT: THE ALAMO HAD NONE!"
I can't recommend this course too much. For instance they read The Rise & Fall Volume One at the 10th level and Volume Two at the next level. There are other relevant books also.
pawmetto,
Oh, I have no doubt the Empire will self-destruct. Our job will be to try to re-organize the ruins.
brock townsend,
This ties in with my previous comment to pawmetto. The home-school community will be one of the major components of the new Southland after DC's vandalism is finished.
Mike,
You nailed it !
It's ignorance, apathy, and abysmally low morale that are the CRUCIAL problems.
Well said indeed !
doug brinson,
Thanks. We've been scolded for so long that we're ignorant, bigoted, unenlightened and making too big of a carbon footprint that our handlers have us right where they want us -- at the point where we're not sure if we deserve to survive or not.
