If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything
Well, this is pathetic, even for Republicans. From the GOP Platform Committee site:
Welcome to the most grassroots-driven platform development effort in the history of American politics!
The Republican Party is seeking your input as we develop the policies and principles upon which we should stand for the next four years.
Please tell us what we need to tell you to get you to vote for us. We'll stand for anything. No, really, ANYTHING!
This reminds me of an old Carol Burnett sketch. Jim Nabors, in the role of Caine from Kung Fu, saves a dance hall girl (Burnett) from the unwanted advances of some unlucky cowpoke. She tries to show her appreciation, but Caine keeps getting mystical visions and lessons in Oriental wisdom from his dead Kung Fu instructor. Frustrated, Burnett chides, "Do you have to ask him about everything? Don't you have a mind of your own?" He replies, "Of course I do!" Then he gazes skyward and says, "Don't I, master?"
Well, that's what today's Republicans remind me of -- without the laughs.
