House poised to apologize for slavery, Jim Crow

The text of the bill includes this:

"African-Americans continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow -- long after both systems were formally abolished -- through enormous damage and loss, both tangible and intangible, including the loss of human dignity and liberty, the frustration of careers and professional lives, and the long-term loss of income and opportunity," the resolution states.

The House would also commit itself to stopping "the occurrence of human rights violations in the future," if it passes the resolution.

Can reparations be far behind? President Obama made it clear what he'd do last Saturday. Addressing minority journalists, Obama promised:

"I personally would want to see our tragic history, or the tragic elements of our history, acknowledged," the Democratic presidential hopeful said.

"I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it's Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds."

Hmmm. Think he's going to offer them the deed to his house, or yours?

President Obama....a bit premature...and besides, if he wants to spend government money (mine) on stupid stuff like this, what else is he going to raise our taxes for? Less government, and less Obama.

Should I receive welfare from the Apache Nation for the murder of my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather?

anonymous,

Premature? The November election is a mere formality -- just ask President Obama.

son3,

Let's not forget who REALLY deserves reparations -- Southerners whose lives, liberty, and property were taken by the direct actions of the Federal government. Unlike the Indians and slaves, Southerners were signatories to the Constitution, and therefore have an even stronger case for damages as a wronged party.

Mr. Tuggle,

Absolutely; the South suffered unimaginable damages due to the Federal Government, and therefore deserve nothing short of the complete and unconditional return of their sovereignty. Each of the States involved still exist as legal and living parties.

However, there are no longer any living victims of the slave trades of the 1800’s.

Like I mentioned before: I don't suffer from the death of my distant relative, so why should I receive any reparations from the Apache Nation?

Apples and Oranges?

I've known for years reparations were coming. With Barack Hussein Obama, it will be a done deal.

I want to know when the uS federal government is going to apologise to lawful American people for over a million murders and deaths inflicted on white people by blacks. The raping of white women alone is over 37,000 per year, by black males. Today 13 Americans will be killed by illegal aliens. I would like to ask these scalawags. Which is the biggest crime; a handful of lynchings and horse whippings for criminal acts against society or the wholesale slaughter and rape based on skin color?

Did you see Pat Buchanan's classic response to Obama's "ground-breaking" talk on race?

"...no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. ...

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America’s fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?"
