China executes two on terror charges

Remember when people fighting for freedom from communism were freedom fighters? Well, the US government now condemns them as terrorists:

China has executed two Uighurs and sentenced 15 others to prison in its Central Asian region of Xinjiang after a court convicted them of terrorism, US-based Radio Free Asia reported on Saturday. ...

Three other Uighurs were given death sentences suspended for two years and the remaining 12 were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 10 years to life, it said.

All 17 Uighurs were charged with belonging to the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which the United States and China list as an international terrorist group.

Radio Free Asia was originally founded to provide anti-communist programming to the peoples of Asia seeking freedom from communist tyranny. It still receives funding from the US government -- but look how it's changed its tune.

Notice the crime the Uighurs committed: they belonged to an independence movement. No mention of any other acts, violent or non-violent. They're thought criminals who wanted to be free of Beijing. DC isn't about to say anything that would upset the Chinese communists -- they might quit shipping their cheap goods to Wal-Mart.
