Davidson College's Confederate heritage
Everyone's excited about how scrappy little Davidson College has beaten the odds in the NCAA Tournament. One thing the press seems to be ignoring is the college's close ties to the Confederacy.
Stonewall Jackson’s wife was Mary Anna Morrison, who was the daughter of Robert Hall Morrison, then the President of Davidson College. Mary Anna Morrison Jackson was known after the war as the "Widow of the Confederacy," and was prominent in the United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter here in Charlotte. Her funeral in 1915 was the biggest event Charlotte had seen at that time.
Confederate General Daniel Harvey Hill, who fought at Fredericksburg and Gettysburg, was married to Isabella Morrison, the sister of Mary Anna. He was a professor at Davidson from 1854 to 1859, when he left to become superintendent of the North Carolina Military Institute of Charlotte. D.H. Hill is buried in Davidson College Cemetery.

That was an interesting story I noticed on the dominant media.
.
Only 1,700 students if I'm not mistaken.
.
I wonder if anyone knows anything about its academic standards and if it is a speciality school or a liberal arts college.
.
I heard the choir singing Sweet Caroline on the radio yesterday.
.
I spent over a year in the Carolinas when I was in the Marine Corps in 1949/51.

My best friend is a Davidson whose from the same family that the school is named for. his gg grandfather lived in Quincy FL and was a member of the secession convention in Fl. My friend and I met at Clemson where we both finished. We remember Davidson beating Frank Maguire and the gamecocks during the seventies in Columbia. Unfortunately Davidson has become more liberal and politically correct. A Davidson alum is the infamous John Monk who writes for that rag, The State, in Columbia, SC. He is the scoundrel who did a character assasination of Sen. Glenn McConnel in his article on the Hunley submarine. As we predicted, Monk leads the fight to remove other symbols of the South such as the statue of Ben Tillman from the statehouse grounds. Keep up the good fight Mike!
Hey,
You guys voting for McCain in the GE? LOL Or, can I sign you all up as being for Obama?
We ran over you all like at Gettysburg!
So, who is your candidate now?

You might not believe it; but, there are things a lot more important than voting for McCain or Obama.

I removed my first post because it had a typo.
.
Sorry about that.
Why is it the South had all the intellectual generals 9pettigrew, Hill, Jackson) while North had just Joshua Chamberlin, a bunch political hacks (Butler, Logan, Sickles) a jim dandy (Hooker) and some fairly brutal men (Sherman, Sheridan)?
